Dan Peek, co-founder of America, dies at 60

Dan Peek, one of the founders of group “America”  passed away this weekend at the age of 60.  No Cause of Death was given.

Dan was semi-retired and living in the Cayman Islands.

In 1970, he and classmates, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell formed America while they attended school in London.  Their dads were all in the Air Force and they attended school on base.

They recorded their first album, America in London.  It was released in the UK almost a year prior to release in the US.  The US version had their breakthrough song, Horse with No Name.

Dan left the band in 1977 to get back to his Christian roots.  They would only reunite as a threesome once again on stage.  But Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell did help write and do backing vocals on one of Dan’s albums in the 80’s.

More to come
